About
Helping Animals,
Our Main Goal
Ever since Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue joined forces in 2018 to become the Humane Society of North Central Florida, we have been on a mission to eliminate the needless euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in our region.
We have achieved so much. We have dedicated, talented, driven staff. We have loyal hardworking volunteers. We have a strong track record of responsible fiscal management.
But our shelter currently faces significant infrastructure challenges, and the time has come to invest in our facilities and long-term sustainability, so we can give 100% of our time, energy, and resources to the animals that need us most. We are currently in the midst of renovations, and we need your help to complete them.
By completing these renovations, we can:
- Prevent leaks and mold
- Protect our animals, staff, and equipment during inclement weather
- Increase our capacity by accommodating 50 more cats and 30 more dogs
- Enhance our low-cost veterinary services, allowing us to serve more animals in need
It takes a village to accomplish the work we face each day. Much of the project has been funded thanks to generous donors and grantors; we need your help to cross the finish line and raise the final $625,388.

“These projects are not indulgences; they are crucial to ensuring safe, healthy conditions for the staff, the volunteers, and the animals they rescue. That’s why I’m making Raise the Woof a priority, and why I’d like to ask you to do the same.”
